WebRICE - Text to Speech Service for Icelandic
WebRICE is a web reader specifically designed for Icelandic text. This free Chrome add-on utilizes a text to speech (TTS) system to read aloud Icelandic text found on webpages. With WebRICE, users can select the text they want to listen to, open the control panel, and click on "Play" to start the speech synthesis. If no text is selected, the add-on will read out all the text on the page.
The add-on provides several convenient features for users. They can open the control panel by clicking on the extension icon, allowing easy access to controls such as "Play" to start the speech, "Pause" to pause the speech, and "Stop" to stop the speech and reset the playback position. Additionally, users can adjust the playback speed by clicking on the "Playback Speed" button and selecting their preferred speed. The add-on also offers voice selection and volume control options, as well as access to more advanced settings for SSML and integration with the AWS Polly backend system.
WebRICE was developed by the Language and Speech Technology Lab at the University of Reykjavik's Center for Artificial Intelligence Research. The project received funding from the Icelandic Language Technology Program, which is managed by Almannarómur and supported by the Ministry of Education and Culture.
